Five years of Avocado Marketing

Five whole years and I’m finally writing that blog that I’ve always wanted to write as part of my grand Avocado Marketing Plan!

I envisage my blog being about marketing (obviously), growing your business, along with general musings about what’s going on in the world.

To kick off, I’d like to talk a little about what the last five years have looked like. I was encouraged to start Avocado Marketing by a good friend and client, Brenda (BOSS Events and ShowShoppa). I’d originally worked for Brenda when I was a fresh-faced graduate, starting out in the Big Smoke. The two of us worked on the marketing for the Army V Navy rugby match and also the Middlesex 7’s.

Brenda, along with jumblebee became my first clients while I still worked full time at Capital Living, who then became my third clients.

I’ve been incredibly lucky that over the last five years, all my clients have come to my via word of mouth, so the actual marketing of myself that I’ve needed to do has been fairly limited!

On setting up Avocado Marketing I imagined initially working with anyone and everyone and then honing down to a specific industry and/or specialising in an area of marketing. However, one of the best things about Avocado Marketing is that I’ve been able to work with such a range of different businesses, across a variety of industries. They all have a couple of things in common; they’re all small, successful businesses and they’re all run by really lovely people (another perk of working for yourself and getting to pick who you work with!).

When Covid hit in 2020 the majority of our clients at the time were events companies or in the fitness and wellbeing industries. These were all hit incredibly hard in the pandemic which was so sad to see. It did, however, enable Jess to have a forced maternity when she gave birth to Hallie at the end of August 2020. Motherhood is HARD, especially the sleep deprivation (no-one tells you about that!), so it’s a slight relief that Jess got a bit of down time with the babe.

Over Covid and in the last year we have worked on some really cool projects, new websites for Back to Back, Winchester Holiday Homes and Clemow Therapies. Another summer of events for BOSS Events and we’ve been working with Uptown Dogs on their content and business development.

It’s super exciting to think about what might be in store for us and who we might be working with down the line. In the meantime we’ll continue to help grow our current clients and keep improving ourselves (keeping up this blog is on that list)!
